CURRICULUM

 

CKLA - Core Knowledge Language Arts

This program instills background knowledge and foundational skills are the keys to early literacy through two instructional strands for PreK-3 that integrate into a single strand in Grades 4-5. Using both print and digital resources, CKLA provides:

  • Carefully sequenced background knowledge in key subjects to build vocabulary and comprehension
  • An unprecedented, thorough approach to developing decoding and other critical foundational skills
  • Teaches reading and writing in tandem
  • Lessons support reading related to phonemic awareness, spelling patterns, decoding with engaging decodable texts, writing mechanics and writing structure and processes on a daily basis
  • Goes along with the National Reading Panel and the Reading Foundational Skills section of the Common Core State Standards
Daily Language Instruction (DLI) and Spelling 

We will continue to use a program to help build grammar and spelling success!
  • 30 weeks of proofreading and editing tasks
  • 30 weeks of spelling lists that support the instruction

 Eureka/Zearn Math

 * School-wide

 * Topics are pre-assessed and then post-assessed 

 * Interactive and problem solving approach to math

 * Engaging activities using manipulatives

 * Topics covered are number sense, properties, operations, patterns, functions, algebraic structures, data analysis, statistics, probability, shapes, dimension, volume, measurement, geometric relationships, and numerous problem solving strategies 

 * Common Core driven


SCIENCE

 * Study into physical, earth, and life sciences

 * Use of the scientific process to make discoveries and do experiments

 * STeLLA learning techniques to help facilitate inquiry and discussions

 * Leveled text to read about the different areas of study

 

SOCIAL STUDIES

 * Studying history, geography, economics, and civics

 * Interactive projects to support standards

 * Leveled texts to read

 

TECHNOLOGY - Chromebooks

 * Learning Digital Citizenship

 * Integrating the technology standards into our curriculum

 * Using various programs and forums to engage student learning, assess progress, and encourage students to be self-motivated

 * Researching using safe sites and search engines
